Microbait

Looking after your lures.

A Microbait lure is built to fish for many seasons. A little care after each session keeps the finish, the hardware and the action honest.

  1. 01

    Rinse with fresh water

After every session — especially after fishing salty or brackish water — rinse the lure under cold tap water to remove fish slime, weed and minerals that would otherwise corrode the hooks or split rings.

  2. 02

    Dry before storing

Pat dry with a soft cloth and leave the lure out of the box for an hour or two so any moisture trapped around the wire and rings evaporates. Storing wet shortens hook life.

  3. 03

    Keep out of direct sun

The cold-water lacquer is built to flex, but UV slowly dulls any finish. Store your lures in their box, in a tackle bag, or in a drawer — not on a sunny windowsill.

  4. 04

    Inspect hooks and rings

Before each trip, give the hook points a quick touch with a hook hone, and check the split rings for any opening. Replace VMC hooks like-for-like (size shown on the lure card).

  5. 05

    Repair, don't retire

Chips and teeth marks are part of a lure that's done its job. If the damage goes through the lacquer to bare wood, write to us — small touch-ups are part of what we do.
